A Bit About Us

I'm Evelyn Zayas. I worked in the computer industry for decades and am now a college assistant professor with a focus on information technology and cybersecurity. A number of years ago, Ed and I enrolled in a martial arts program because I wanted to better protect myself by learning different self-defense techniques. We had to leave at the Green belt level, but it was an empowering experience.

For the last few years, I have been involved with shooting sports such as clay shooting with my Beretta shotgun or participating in Steel Challenge matches with my Ruger Mark IV. I obtained Sharpshooter status with Project Appleseed and will continue to strive for that Rifleman patch!

I'm Ed Zayas. I retired from the US Army, worked in the technology industry for years, and eventually became a high school teacher. These days I run a small SCUBA club where young adults and their parents can get an Open Water diving certification and participate in interesting ocean-related activities as a family. Most of my SCUBA students call me “Uncle Ed”.

I remember when I was about 12 years old, my Uncle Federico took my sisters and me to a local firing range in my hometown and showed us how to shoot a .22 caliber handgun. Thinking about my past, I have always been around firearms whether it was in the military or as a civilian.

I understand that we are divided in America regarding firearms. And I understand the reasons on both sides of the political spectrum. I choose to respect the opinion on both sides while still pursuing my business as well as sports shooting like Steel Challenge competitions, Project Appleseed, and clay shooting which Evelyn and I enjoy immensely.

Of particular interest to me is the use of firearms and other non-lethal items for self-defense, especially by women who are vulnerable to vicious attackers while walking, jogging, or even just going to their vehicles.

As a federal firearms license (FFL) holder, I plan to make firearms, ammunition and training available to those who are legally eligible to purchase them, and to make available an ample supply of other items like pepper spray, tasers, and other devices for the protection of those who are most vulnerable.
